Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. Milan has donated various scholarships worth 35.20 lakhs for the academic year 2021-22 for the project proposal on Waste Recycling and Circular Economy submitted by the Project Coordinators Dr Vasudeva Madav and Prof Ashok Babu, Department of Mechanical Engineering and also to establish the interdisciplinary centre named Maire Tecnimont Centre for Research in Waste Recycling and Circular Economy to carryout advanced research in the area of Waste Recycling and Circular Economy along with the coordination faculty members from various departments of NITK.

The aim of providing scholarship was to promote social inclusion, gender equality, and provide equal opportunity to all as well as to promote access to quality education and research. This scholarship support not only improved the critical thinking and writing skills of the students but also served the purpose of higher education. The financial aid in terms of scholarship enhanced the number of quality students attracted towards research and development in the area of Waste to Energy and Circular Economy. The amount was utilised for carryout the research in the above mentioned area by appointing Post-Doctoral Fellows (MTE-PDF), Project, Project Associates I (PA-I) and Project Associates (PA-II), and also providing Contingency Support for MTE-PDF, PA-I, PA-II, M.Tech/ B.Tech Students of NITK who is working in the above mentioned research area as per the project proposal submitted.
